But Hunt is a modification for Quake made on September 18, 1996 by Douglas H. King (Sea4). This modification is an expansion on the earlier BG Bot.

A large difference between the two modifications is the usage of different names. All bots in BG Bot were just referred to as "bot". Unlike the earlier BG Bot, the bots in Bot Hunt also appear to be like Ranger in appearance and sound. Mobility is still extremely limited however; they stay perfectly still when firing and often can be found running into walls. Unlike the earlier modification, these bots will Telefrag one another to prevent getting stuck. They also cannot be stunned.

Note that the Bot Hunt bot can jump around in a manner similar to a Fiend. This means it can leap off edges, but cannot naturally drop off an edge, and will instead randomly jump around as it moves. Note that this means it is very unlikely for a bot to find itself in Lava or Slime.

The Bot Hunt bot can be used in Cooperative, whereby they will aid the player against Monsters. Note that this bot will target Crucified Zombies, even if they cannot be killed.

Each bot has an individual frag count which is displayed on death.

If the player finds a Secret, they will get a message saying that "bot found a secret!". Also note that the documentation is incorrect in regards to using the Axe, the bot behaves much like BG Bot and will endlessly fire harmless shots in the event it runs out of Ammo. The Ring of Shadows is useless for these bots, they do not change appearance when one is taken.

Bot Names

The bots are named sequentially, meaning for example that the first one spawned will be named Cyrus and the second Incarnation.

Note that the game will crash if the player tries to make another bot after Asylum. Note that it can be unstable if played with too many bots, meaning it is recommended to stop before Asylum, as Gibbed bots can contribute to the game crashing.
